Berlin can’t get enough of business and innovation centers. A former U.S. military hospital, which was unused for years will be completely refurbished by the end of 2022 and will be turned into something contemporary to satisfy the growing needs for space of young businesses and entrepreneurs in Berlin. FUBIC, the “Business and Innovation Center next to Freie Universität Berlin Campus” is being created for technology-focused startups, particularly in the fields of life sciences, health, and computer science. Historically it’s an excellent match, as “Berlin SÜDWEST” has been a traditional research location for over 100 years.

Six new buildings will surround the existing main building, creating outstanding conditions for startups to concentrate on their work. It is located the Dahlem neighborhood in Berlin’s 6th District of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, close to the Freie Universität Berlin, which will allow for the creation of modern workspaces for knowledge-based industries in a green neighborhood. Adding to Dahlem’s academic environment are numerous, renowned non-university research facilities, including Max Planck Institute, BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, and Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB), making FUBIC an ideal location for knowledge-based startups and research spin-offs.

That is the kind of infrastructure that allows founders to quickly launch their projects with great technical equipment and intellectual support from students, experts and researchers.

According to plans, the 50,000 sqm (53,8195.52 sqft) innovation park will have the capacity to provide 80 startups with workspace, yet only 60% of it will be used for this purpose. Besides workspaces there will be conference and meeting rooms, cafeteria with terrace, reception area and information desks for any kind of administrative matters. The parking lot will be equipped with electric charging stations with enough space for enjoying free time and exchanges over drinks and food.

FUBIC is being developed and managed by WISTA-MANAGEMENT GmbH, the developer of Berlin Adlershof Science and Technology Park, and is slated to create more than 1,000 new jobs while attracting young and vibrant individuals.
