Steglitz-Zehlendorf is one of Berlin’s twelve boroughs, also known to be the wealthiest among these.It is located in the southwest of the federal capital, directly neighboring Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg.

Steglitz-Zehlendorf is home to 81 startups, 4 VCs, 752 startup employees and 9 corporates. In 2021, around 10 billion € has been invested in Steglitz-Zehlendorf-based businesses.

The borough is very famous for its greenery, forest and water areas, as well as for its distinctive relations to life sciences, mostly due to the close cooperation between universities, research institutes and businesses. Steglitz-Zehlendorf has 50 institutes and clinics, as well as over 40 manufacturing and developing companies in medical technology, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. This high quality is mainly maintained by the Freie Universität Berlin, one of the eleven German universities of excellence and one of the top startup universities in Germany with numerous spin-offs and startups in the related areas.

“FUBIC”

Steglitz-Zehlendorf will also be home to one of Berlin´s eleven “Future Sites”. The “FUBIC” startup and technology center on 50,000 sqm (53,8195.52 sqft) in the immediate vicinity of the Dahlem Campus will create outstanding conditions for startups to concentrate on their work.

CULTURE

Steglitz-Zehlendorf is very rich in natural attractions. The Berlin-Potsdam cultural landscape, with its historical buildings, gardens and parks leaves a very unique impression behind, which are mostly part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Only to present some of these: Schloss Glienicke was merely built as a summer residence for the Prussian royal family. This palace comes with an astonishing palace garden, the Klein Glienicke landscape park. The garden has terraces, which were used for social gatherings, flower beds with terracotta edging and sculptures make it an impressive open-air museum.

Also, probably the most iconic open-air lido of Berlin and even Germany, the Strandbad Wannsee is located in Steglitz-Zehlendorf. It is also one of the largest inland lidos in Europe with a 4,183 ft long and 260 ft wide beach. This lido has a special place in people’s hearts, causing numerous memories to millions of people yearly. The Strandbad Wannsee has more than 100 years of tradition and will remain a beloved spot to enjoy hot summer days in Berlin.
