Publish Date:  June 20th, 2023

We would like to thank everyone who joined us on June 8th in Boston for our “Life Science Symposium: Invest in Berlin”, which we hosted together with Berlin Partner for Business & Technology and MassChallenge.

The event commenced at 1 PM with a welcome lunch and opportunity for networking. Sebastian Serafin, Deputy Director of the Berlin Business Office, USA, opened the event with a brief introduction of our office. We were then honored to have Dr. Sonja Kreibich, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Boston, deliver welcome remarks and Damon Cox, Head of Next Practice and Inclusive Growth at MassChallenge, introduce MassChallenge’s mission and goal of creating strong connections between the life science ecosystems of Boston and Berlin.

The following opening keynote “Exploring Berlin as an Investment Location for Life Sciences” by Dr. Kai Uwe Bindseil, Head of Division Life Sciences / Healthcare Industry at Berlin Partner, and Susan Kaffenberger, Project Manager Biotech /Pharma at Berlin Partner, highlighted the advantages of Berlin as a business location and life sciences hub in Germany.

For an even closer look at Berlin’s potential in the life sciences sector, we were delighted to have Jost Reinhard, Global Head of Cell & Gene Therapy Unit at Bayer, and Seth Ettenberg, President and CEO of BlueRock Therapeutics, present the second keynote “Deep Dive into Berlin’s Life Sciences Landscape”.

The program concluded with an insightful panel discussion “Exploring Advantages and Differences in Berlin and US Healthcare Ecosystems” moderated by Damon Cox, Head of Next Practice and Inclusive Growth at MassChallenge.

We were grateful to have these knowledgeable speakers on stage to give us great perspectives on both sides: Susan Chase, Vice President Business Development at BioInnovation Labs LLC (“Biolabs”), Dr. Kai Uwe Bindseil, Head of Division Life Sciences / Healthcare Industry at Berlin Partner, Jost Reinhard, Global Head of Cell & Gene Therapy Unit at Bayer, Dr. Christina Quensel, Managing Director at Campus Berlin Buch (Berlin Innovation Site), and Seth Ettenberg, President and CEO of BlueRock Therapeutics.

The event was a great success, thanks to our knowledgeable speakers who provided insights into the Life Science sector in Berlin and Boston, current developments in Life Sciences, and what makes these two cities such attractive locations for companies and talent. Innovation thrives through collaboration, and we look forward to continuing to build and foster strong relationships between the two Life Science Hubs!
